Albertosaurus FAQs

Where Were Albertosaurus Fossils Located?

Albertosaurus fossils were mostly found in the Horseshoe Canyon Formation along the Red Deer River in Alberta, Canada, with the first discovery in 1884 by Joseph B. Tyrrell. Some possible Albertosaurus fossils have also been reported in Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, and even Mexico’s Corral de Enmedio and Packard Formations, though these are debated and may belong to other tyrannosaurids.

Gorgosaurus vs Albertosaurus: Who Would Win?

It’s tough to say definitively since Albertosaurus and Gorgosaurus didn’t live at the same time, with Gorgosaurus appearing about five million years earlier. Both were closely related tyrannosaurids, similar in size (8-9 meters long) and build, with Albertosaurus being slightly lighter (up to 3 tons) and Gorgosaurus possibly having longer legs. If they met, it might be a close match, with some suggesting Albertosaurus could have a slight edge due to its robust build, but there’s no clear winner without more evidence.
